INTRODUCTION

Mental Disorders represent four of the leading causes of disability worldwide and amount for approximately 12% of the global burden of disease. One to two persons per 100 in the community are affected by a serious mental disorder at any given moment. The Department of Psychiatry was started at BMHRC in November 2001, keeping the ever-increasing need for quality mental health care in India in mind. The department is on par with the best in the country, and offers high quality mental health care.

The staff includes psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric social worker and special educator, all together offering comprehensive mental health care.
