The unit of Microbiology, Department of Pathology, BMHRC, became functional in October
2000. Various diagnostic tests for infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites
as well as investigations for immunological disorders are carried out here using state of the, art technology. More than 300,000 investigations have
been carried out in the seven years that the
department has been in existence now. A number of
research projects are also in progress. In
addition to diagnostics and research activities,
the department runs an infection control, program.This involves active surveillance for hospital
acquired infections, incorporation of preventive
measures to avert any potential outbreak of
infection in the hospital, and creation of
awareness among staff regarding infection control.
