The
Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery provides
comprehensive care for diseases of the
gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, liver and the
billiary tree. The
department has a 30-bedded ward, which includes a
6-bedded High Dependency Unit. We have daily OPD
from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday and 9 AM to 2
PM, on
Saturday and provide emergency services round the
clock (24x7).
The
theater complex has all
modern facilities like Intra-operative Ultrasound,
Intra-operative
endoscopes, Image intensifier, CUSA,
Radiofrequency Ablator (RF), Choledochoscope and
advanced Laparoscopy work station, and this makes this
Department at par with any National Centre.
We
emphasize on a team approach, enlisting the
cooperation of other departments in providing a
multidisciplinary approach to patient care. We
work in close association with Medicine gasroenterology,
Critical care, Radiology and Pathology
departments.
Besides
providing current, efficient and evidence based
patient care, the department has a strong academic
aptitude. It has formed DIGESTIVE DISEASES
FOUNDATION (DDF), which organizes teaching
activities and conferences in this field in
Bhopal. It coordinates closely with other bodies
and doctors of Bhopal in organizing a
various
seminars and meetings (IDDW 2001, National CME's
2002, 2003,2004, IASG 2003, MPISGCON 2006).
The
Department is
one of the few centers in the country which has an
academic course in GI surgery (DNB GI Surgery and
PhD in GI Surgery and Clinical Nutrition). It is
also recognized by Johnson and Johnson as the
center for advanced laparoscopic training and
awards a six month fellowship in the same. It has
conducted and participated in several multi-center
global clinical trials for multinational drug
companies.
