Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Center (BMHRC) is a 350 bedded
state-of-the-art super specialty Hospital dedicated to providing sophisticated and
quality medical treatment to the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy free of cost. The
Hospital is administered by the Bhopal Memorial Hospital Trust (BMHT) appointed by
the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India under the Chairmanship of Hon'ble Justice A.M.
Ahmadi, Former Chief Justice of India. BMHRC has 8 Mini Units situated in different
parts of the city to provide primary health care services to the gas victims.
The Hospital was commissioned in July 2000 and since last 10 years it has established
a reputation of being the finest super specialty hospital in Central India and has gained
an all India reputation without any allegations / objections till date. BMHRC has the
following 14 super specialty disciplines: Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, G.I.
Medicine, G.I. Surgery & Clinical Nutrition, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology,
Urology, Pulmonary Medicine, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Pathology (Microbiology,
Transfusion Medicine and Haematology), Anesthesiology & Critical Care and
Psychiatry. These Departments are all well-equipped to provide up-to-date and
comprehensive medical care. The Hospital is staffed by highly qualified and competent
Specialists i.e. Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors, who are
assisted by excellent Senior and Junior Residents, Para-Medical and Nursing Staff.
Since inception 40 lakhs visits of gas victims patients have been recorded in mini units
and provided treatment. In the main hospital about 8 lakhs OPD patients visits have
been recorded and 54,000 patients have been admitted in the hospital wards for
specialized treatment. The Hospital has continued to provide free treatment to the gas
victims only by utilizing the corpus fund provided by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of
India and without any monetary aid either from the Central Government or the State
Government.
We assure the gas victims that we will continue to provide totally free and state-of-the-
art treatment to them.
Hon’ble Justice A.M. Ahmadi, Chairman, BMHT has twice approached Hon’ble
Justice Balakrishnan, Chief Justice of India requesting him to relieve him from the
responsibility of the Chairmanship of BMHT. However, the Chief Justice of India has
declined his request and asked him to continue with the Chairmanship of BMHT.
He is not drawing any remuneration or honorarium (even during Trust Meetings),
whatsoever from the BMHT. Moreover, he makes direct payment towards any medical
treatment or pathological / other investigations done for himself at BMHRC, the
records of which are available at BMHRC.
We have been serving the gas victims for the last 10 years and we assure even today
that we will be serving the gas victims to the best of our ability with the available
resources to their satisfaction and will continue to do so. This is our pious assurance to
the gas victims.
